My blog prompt: The chip off the old block?

Alright, to start this post, how many of you readers resemble a lot like your father or mother? Most are yes, but some are a no.

When using the phrase " chip off the old block", it refers as the person being like his parent(s) when he or she or they were at that person's age.

For my case, I am more of a person who does not resemble in personality and thinking of either of my parents, but resembles my father in looks, though I am a lot taller than him, not to insult his height.

Most of my relatives say I look like him, which sometimes makes me a bit upset. I do not really like it, so I kept argueing that I did not. But I still will not change my looks just because of that.

But I am a bit like my mother because our taste for food is a bit the same. We like spicy food, though she cannot take too much if not she will have health problems.

So that is all for this blog prompt, have a good day!

Who is my favourite character in Village by the Sea

Alright, I am going to talk about my favourite character in Village by the Sea. And the character is Mr Panwallah.

Why him?

Simple, he is:
.kind
.does not look down on Hari
.and many more

Reasons why I said those:
Kind - When Hari needed to write a letter to his family back at his village, Mr Panwallah was
kind enough to lend him a pen and a postcard( if I am not wrong) so that he could write
back to his family to let them know how he was doing.

Does not look down on Hari - He was willing to teach Hari how to repair watches and clocks
eventhough Hari was just a village boy. Normally people will not
care about a person like Hari and look down on that person, but
Mr Panwallah did not, instead he taught Hari a skill that was useful
for finding another job.

There are still more things that make him my favourite character, but due to the time constrain I have, I shall end this post by concluding that my favourite character in Village by the Sea is
Mr Panwallah

Which part of Village by the Sea do I like best

This post will be on the Village by he Sea.

Personally, my choice would be the part whereby the villagers came to Bombay all together just to protest against the goverment for making plans of building factories and industrialization of their villages.

What makes it my favourite?
It is simple!

It shows how united the villagers were when their homes were going to be used as a industrial place without their consent. They helped one another the whole time and they did not care that they were from different villages. There was also a part where Hari was hungry and sad. It was then the villagers even helped him, by offering him some food, this really showed how they cared for each other. I was quite touched by the process.Though in the end they did not succeed, but they still did their best and should be proud of themselves.

So with that ends this post.

I rather be a city rat than the country rat

To start off this topic, I would like to ask you the reader this question:

Would you rather live in a city whereby you can enjoy the numerous amount of technology or would you rather live in a farm or a small town whereby there is only the basics of technologies like having a fan instead of a air-conditional?

Other than some nature loving people and simple people in this world, most will definitely choose the city. So, most people are city rats, including me. I would not want to be a country rat since the life will be hard and when you go to a city nearby, you will yourself being laughed at for knowing little of this world, but for a city rat, your life will be more easy and convenient, with the cell phones, computers, televisions all these made life more easy.

Though there may be some problems faced being a city rat, like the stress of the present education and the competitiveness of a job or other things, I still want to be a city rat rather than a country rat.

Confessions of a computer addict

All right! This post is going to be about the topic as you will see in the title, Confessions of a computer addict. Frankly speaking, I cannot bring myself to ever part with my laptop, only when I have to go for a camp or go for travels to other countries, but I will try to bring along with me to the countries.

Problems due to the addiction:

.I sometimes kept playing till I had forgotten to do my homework, causing lots of trouble and I had to come to school early just to finish my homework, but since I do my homework fast, I have few problems in handing them in on time.

.I often get scolded for using the computer for the whole day, sometimes my parents even keep my laptop at night, just to prevent me from secretly play my laptop late at night.

Those are just the few problems I faced, there are some more. But recently I was beginning to try and kick my addiction away as it was affecting my education, so I made a pact to stop being a addict to computers and spend more of my time on my education.

Poet

The poet of my choice would be William Shakespeare.

The reason for my choice is of his astounding acheivements and his wonderful poems and plays.
A interesting fact about him, is that through his poems and plays, he invented thousands of words, often the combination or contorting of Latin, French and native roots. The impressive addition of English, which is according to the Oxford English Dictionary, includes words such as : arch-villain, birthplace, bloodsucking, courtship, dewdrop, downstairs, fanged, heartsore, hunchbacked, leapfrog, misquote, pageantry, radiance, schoolboy, stillborn, watchdog, and zany.

Thesis:
It was said that French Meres cited that William Shakespeare was "honey-tongued" for his plays and poems in 1598. My thesis is that in most of his plays or his poems, there are alway some lines which will make someone feel good.

Biography:
William Shakespreare was born on April 23, 1564, in Stratford-on-Avon. He was educated at the King Edward IV Grammar School in Stratford, where he learned Latin and a little Greek and read the Roman dramatists. At the age of 18, he was married and had 2 daughters. He went shortly after 1585 to London to begin his acting career. But due to the plague, the theaters in London were often closed between June 1592 and April 1594. During that period, Shakespeare probably had some income from his patron, Henry Wriothesley, earl of Southampton, to whom he dedicated his first two poems, Venus and Adonis (1593) and The Rape of Lucrece (1594). The fomer was a long narrative poem depicting the rejection of Venus by Adonis, his death, and the consequent disappearance of beauty from the world. In 1594, Shakespeare joined the Lord Chamberlain's company of actors, the most popular of the companies acting at Court. In 1599 Shakespeare joined a group of Chamberlain's Men that would form a syndicate to build and operate a new playhouse: the Globe, which became the most famous theater of its time. With his share of the income from the Globe, Shakespeare was able to purchase New Place, his home in Stratford. While Shakespeare was regarded as the foremost dramatist of his time, evidence indicates that both he and his world looked to poetry, not playwriting, for enduring fame. Shakespeare's sonnets were composed between 1593 and 1601, though not published until 1609. Shakespeare wrote more than 30 plays. These are usually divided into four categories: histories, comedies, tragedies, and romances. Sometime after 1612, Shakespeare retired from the stage and returned to his home in Stratford. He drew up his will in January of 1616, which included his famous bequest to his wife of his "second best bed." He died on April 23, 1616, and was buried two days later at Stratford Church.

Three of the poems written by William Shakespeare:
.Macbeth, Act I, Scene II [The merciless Macdonwald]
.Venus and Adonis [But, lo! from forth a copse]
.Three Songs

This is the poem I chose:

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

Figurative Language in this poem:
1)And there the sun burns crimson bright- Personification - The author wanted to show how the sun was like during that period.
2)And there the moon-bird rests from his flight- Personification - The author is saying that the moon has disappeared from the sky.
3)To cool in the peppermint wind- Metaphor - The author wants to show that the wind then was cooling like peppermint.
4)the smoke blows black- Personification - The author wants to show how serious was the smoke.
5)And the dark street winds and bends- Personification- The author is showing how long the road seems to be.
6)We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow- Personification- The author is saying how the journey will be.
7)And watch where the chalk-white arrows go- Symbolism- The author is telling us the direction that is followed.

What I like about this poem is that it is short, simple and clear. It is easy to understand yet it is able to give a deep meaning.

I am very sorry!

It has been a long time since I posted on this blog. I even forgot to do the blog prompts for the June holidays. I know I am in a lot of trouble, but I did not post on this blog because lately my time has been limited and the internet access at home is poor. Another reason was that I only found my homework for the holidays at the third week. This was because I placed my homework in my cabinet to save space on the first week. After a while, I forgotten where I placed them. Until the third week, I could not do my homework at all. During the third week, I finally found them while cleaning up my room. So please forgive me if I did not do the blog prompts.

NPCC parade

Sorry I did not post for so long, I have been restricted to use my laptop since it was examination period and my parents are quite worried about my results eversince I failed my science term test last term and the rest of the subjects were not that good, so I had not been able to access my internet at home since then. But I going to talk about my day at the NPCC parade on Saturday. It was quite surprising as I was the only secondary one student who went there to support my seniors. I at first felt so lonely since I was all by myself with the secondary two seniors, but I soon find myself mixing well with the seniors. They were shocked at first when they heard that I came with them and I was only secondary one, but soon accepted me and taught me some things about NPCC and told me about their experiences in NPCC. I found it interesting and learnt a lot. After reaching the Home Team Academy which was the venue, we waited a while then the parade started. The parade lasted about 1 to 2 hours and there was some entertainment put up by some schools. When it ended, we wen down and took a group photograph with the secondary three seniors who were involved in the parade and after all that, we boarded the bus and went back to Hwa Chong. Through this parade, I learnt quite a lot of things and I hoped that I can support my senors next year during the parade. Well that is all, goodbye!

Prelims for Project's Day

Today was as you see in the title, Project's Day prelim. My team, which consist of me, Mitch,
Thomson and Loo Jun Mun, who is my primary school friend and he is in class 1o1. Our project was about World War 2 and it is mainly about Singapore. When the judges asked why we wanted to do a project on World War 2, we explained that on the internet, the websites that explain about the events in World War 2 were mostly about the Europeans and lack detail of what happened in Singapore. Although they said that there already local website about Singapore's history, we were not at all disheartened as we knew that we could make our website more interesting and easier for the students, who are our main target audience, to understand as the information that the internet gives is either too difficult to comprehend or too wordy. We will do our best and hope that we can make it to the finals.

Busy,busy,busy...

These days I feel like I cannot just stop worrying about school matters. I have to do homework like everyday and I also have to do some projects. And sometimes when I reached home, I don't even feel like or have the energy to do my work. I should buck up and try to overcome these problems.

Newspaper review

Hello!
Today I will be talking about an article that I read in the newspaper today. The title of the article is "Growing up too soon". The type of story is a millieu story. The reason I stated that this article is a millieu story is that the topic that the article is talking about concerns the female youths today in society, and a millieu story refers to a story that is the world which a story happens, whether that is real world or an invented one, it includes not just the physical world( but does include all aspects of that, such as geography, weather, animal life and so on), but also the society, religion, other people ad just about everything else.
Moving on to the article. What I feel about this article is that these youths are still immature and need to be talked to about this incident. Although they think that it is "thrilling" to have sex with their partner, actually they are just making themselves look cheap in society. They not only lose their virginity, they also lose their intergrity and they become a shame to their parents in front of others. Even if they did it for money, it is still wrong. Doing this is like they are selling their bodies to those pervertic men. They should treasure their body and not do this type of shameless things.
In my opinion, I think the teachers should really talk about this issue to the students as if the students are not told about the consequences of this undesirable action, they will be foolish enough to do it and get into trouble. The goverment should also give a heavier punishment to the people who commit the offence and run campaigns to inform the public about this.
I shall stop now. If you have anything to say or if you want to object to what I said, please leave a comment in the comment box( please do not leave your comments in the tag box).
Bye!

Apologies...

I am sorry that I have not posted anything on the blog. Please forgive me as I was preparing for my tests this week. Sadly there is still one more test which is the science test( I think I can manage) next week, but I will try my best. The tests throughout term 1 to term 3 is actually 30% of my total marks( if I am not wrong, I kinda forgotten) throughout the year, and the end of year exam is the most percentage of my grades, so I must work hard to get a good MSG!

Npcc life

Woah! Npcc is so tiring! We have to memorise all the steps for each command, and we have to do it with a standard. For example, when you lift your leg you must lift it in 90 degrees, toes facing down and cannot do the "horse kick" which is like how the horse stomp its hoofs. We must also do it in sync, if not the NCOs,who are our seniors, will make us repeat over and over again. Overall it is difficult but the teachers are quite fun. So it is not that bad.

My new EP3!

Finally I have started my EP3(or CCA) and it is surprisingly NPCC! I at first thought that it was all marching for the EP3 but when I went for NPCC today, I was told that there was also camps and other activities for the EP3. When we are secondary 3 or 4, we can even hold a real police revolver! I look forward to secondary 3.

Little Ironies of Singapore

Hey! Today in my LA we talked about the story about a teacher and her student which is called "The teacher".It was on how the teacher failed to realize that the student,Geok Peng, was telling the teacher about her problems at home through essays that the teacher told the class to write. The teacher not only failed to see Geok Peng's problems, she even criticized her english and gave her bad grades. In the end, Geok Peng committed suicide and the teacher even said that Geok Peng should have told her her problems. I felt sad for Geok Peng as she was a shy and timid girl and the only way she can express her problems is to write about it in her essays, but the teacher still did not understand that.

CNY Day 1

This Chinese New Year is quite a meaningful one as I felt the spirit of a family reunion. There was full of laughter when the whole family tell one another how their life was in the past year of 2008 and the many exciting things that had happened. I even felt a little sense of pride when they ask me which school I entered for my secondary studies. I guess I am a bit of a show off. But still I am careful of what I say in front of others to not hurt their feelings. So that is all for today, since it is late, bye!
